Inspiration4 is a Human spaceflight mission operated by SpaceX on behalf of Jared Isaacman, the CEO of Shift4 Payments.

  • It became the first human spaceflight to orbit Earth with only private citizens on board
  • The four crew members are: Hayley Arceneaux, Christopher Sembroski, Sian Proctor, and Jared Isaacman
  • It was launched on 16 September 2021 from Kennedy Space Center

All 4 crew members have appeared in videos and photos showing that they are having a great time. Apart from research, the crew members also live-streamed and made phone calls to their colleagues back home.

However, the crew members seemed to enjoy but they raised an extraordinary complaint, it was related to the food they had to eat-in space. Their first meal was Pizza which was served cold and when Inspiration4 Twitter handle shared it, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had to come forward to say "sorry". He assured that the Dragon capsule will not only have a food warmer but also free Wi-Fi next time.

The free Wi-Fi part might be linked to the Starlink project that SpaceX is undertaking. SpaceX is actually operating a satellite Internet constellation for low-latency Internet access to most of the Earth which are currently available in 14 regions that include Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US.

SpaceX earlier tweeted all the four members are healthy & happy and before they went to bed for their first night in space, they had traveled 5.5 times around Earth gazing out of the Dragon ship's cupola - the largest space window ever built and enjoyed a couple of meals. Their meals included coffee and tea, pizzas (cold), sandwiches, meatballs, salamis, and snacks like skittles and ginger chews.

  • Elon Musk also tweeted that he had a chat with the crew and all is well

The Inspiration mission was launched nearly two months after Richard Branson flew to space in his Virgin Galactic spacecraft followed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on his Blue Origin vehicle. The Inspiration4 will return to Earth later Saturday US time. The splashdown is set for a little after 7 pm EDT.
