At the end of this blog, you will learn how to find the IP address of your computer, but first let’s go geeky and see what IP address is or else you can skip to the methods part.
IP stands for Internet Protocol. IP address just tells the logical location of your computer when it is connected to the internet. A wide range of people think their systems will get hacked if they reveal their IP addresses. But that’s not the case. An IP address is just like a digital language used in the network to allow us to go online. With IP address one can be sure to know few details of you but nothing life-threatening.
A normal IP address has four parts which have numbers from 0 to 255. This is a 32-bit addressing scheme. For example, 23.11.189.80 is a unique IP address, and this is an IPv4 version address which has a limit of 4 billion addresses. And they call the higher version IPv6. This is a 128-bit addressing scheme. Which has a limit of 3.4 undecillionth values which might have gone above from your head? I would say it took 5 minutes for me to read that number in words.
Okay, now let’s see how to find the IP address of our computer
Find your IP Address (Using Command Prompt)
Step 1 Click Start and then type Command Prompt
Step 2 Now Right-click on the Command Prompt
Step 3 Click Run as administrator
Step 4 Now in the command prompt type "ipconfig" and hit Enter.
Step 5 You can see a bunch of numbers, ignore them all. The IP address of your computer is beside IPV4 address.
Now that's how you find the IP address of a computer using Command prompt.
Using a Browser
Let's see how to find the IP address that your internet service provider has given to you. For this, you need an internet connection.
Step 1 Open any browser like edge, chrome, opera, internet explorer or firefox. I use the edge.
Step 2 Now to go www.google.com and search "what is my IP address".
Step 3 In the results, you can find your public IP address, which is connected to the internet given by your ISP.
If you are connected to WI-FI
Step 1 Click on the Network icon on the right side of the taskbar
Step 2 Select your connected wifi network and click properties
